A guardianship (missing persons) order (GMPO) is appointed by the Court to a trusted person to act and make decisions for a missing person’s property and financial affairs.
-
A guardianship (missing persons) order (GMPO) allows an appointed guardian to make decisions on behalf of the missing person concerning property and financial affairs.
The guardian is required to make decisions in the person’s best interests, keep a record of these decisions, and is supervised by the Office of the Public Guardian.
More information on GMPO is available at GOV.UK. -
To become a guardian of a missing person’s affairs, you need to meet certain requirements. More information is available at GOV.UK.
You must be over 18 years and can apply if you’re the missing person’s:- husband, wife or civil partner
- parent
- child
- brother or sister
- guardian already and you’re renewing the order.
You can also apply if you can give the court evidence that you have a ‘sufficient interest’ in the person’s finances or property.
-
If a guardianship is applied to a Cashplus account, the guardian is able to:
- manage the account
- request account statements
- update details
- manage payments and Direct Debits
- open and close accounts.
If more than one guardian is appointed for the missing person, all of the above actions must be managed jointly.
